Celebrating the life of

Benjamin Charles Mainor

August 24, 1936 - August 15, 2026

Benjamin Charles Mainor

Benjamin Charles Mainor passed away on August 15, 2026 at the age of 89 after a long and love filled life.

He was born in Eufala, Alabama to Walter Foy Mainor and Susie Matteson Mainor. During his youth, he and his family moved to Miami. There, his notorious adventurous spirit became evident as he and his siblings wrangled snakes, spear fished, and freedove. He later spent years working for the United States Postal Service, where he eventually rose to the rank of postmaster. When not working, Benjamin loved photographing nature and spending time outdoors, especially with his bird-feeders, which he filled to the brim every morning. He also enjoyed cooking meals for those he loved, and he is remembered especially fondly by his granddaughters for cooking breakfast at his home.

A playful spirit, Benjamin could always be counted on to make people laugh. Regardless of the situation, his dry humor and wit could brighten a room. He had a servant’s heart, and exemplified what it means to embody the Christian ideals of kindness, patience, love, and service. Benjamin led his life selflessly, with others at the forefront of his mind. He spent decades in faithful service to the Union Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as choir director. Even after retiring, he continued to serve his community by ceaselessly volunteering and helping those in need. He was also a doting grandfather to his five grandchildren, each of whom he provided with lifelong memories of love and laughter.

His loving devotion to his community, children, and grandchildren was surpassed only by his adoration for his wife, Gwyndolyn. Those lucky enough to witness their love saw how affection could span six decades, and their relationship was a beautiful model of love and devotion through all seasons of life. Not only was their love was evident in the everyday—hands held in a church pew, kisses on the cheek, chairs always pulled out—but it was also evident in the years of tireless, devoted care that Ben provided for Gwyn following her stroke.

Benjamin is survived by his wife Gwyndolyn Harrison Mainor, his children Benjamin Foy Mainor, Byron Harrison Mainor, daughters-in-law, Lisa Mainor and Molly McCallion, five grandchildren Meghan, Bridget, Harrison (Darby), Greyson (Presley), and Garret Mainor and his siblings Thomas Foy Mainor, Mary Ann Molly Mainor, Bonnie Ruth Mainor. Brother in Law Joe Harrison. He is predeceased by father, Walter Foy Mainor; mother, Susie Matteson Mainor; brother - James Philip Mainor.

Benjamin will be remembered by those who loved him as a kind, humble, and selfless man. Though he will be dearly missed, memories of his exemplary spirit and full life will comfort and bring joy to those he left behind. We are comforted in knowing that he is resting in God’s heavenly kingdom. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matt. 25:21)
